Celebrating Latin Heritage Month

There are plenty of protein powders on the market, but not many that can call themselves Latin-owned.

Celebrating Latin Heritage Month — Why We’re Proud to Be Latin Owned (and Who Else to Support)

Every year from September 15 to October 15, many people in the U.S. observe Latinx / Hispanic Heritage Month — a time to honor the cultures, traditions, and communities that trace their roots to Latin America. Wikipedia+2Good Housekeeping+2

For us at Mikuna, this month is more than a celebration — it’s a chance to spotlight our heritage, reflect on the journey of Chocho from the Andes to your kitchen, and stand alongside other Latinx-owned wellness brands who are shaping food, health, and culture with purpose.

🌎 What Latin Heritage Month Means — and Why It Matters

Latinx / Hispanic Heritage Month was established to commemorate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic- and Latin American–heritage communities throughout the United States. Rutgers University+2Gap Inc.+2

It’s a celebration of identity, resilience, and legacy — honoring where we come from, acknowledging present struggles, and imagining a future filled with representation, respect, and shared prosperity.

At Mikuna, our roots stretch from the highlands of Ecuador to Santa Barbara — bridging ancestral farming wisdom with modern nutrition. This is our heritage, our responsibility, and our pride.

💚 Why Mikuna Is More Than a Brand — It’s Our Heritage

Mikuna was born from personal history. Our founder — Ecuadorian-born, raised between two cultures — turned to traditional Andean agriculture when modern food caused digestive issues, and discovered Chocho, an ancient legume packed with fiber, minerals, and plant-based nutrition.

Because Chocho is naturally grown in the Andes — often as a soil-nurturing crop — and processed with minimal intervention, Mikuna stands for:

  • Clean, whole-food plant protein (not isolates or heavy processing)

  • Ethical, regenerative sourcing from Indigenous and rural farming communities

  • Nutrition rooted in heritage, identity, and ecological responsibility

In a world of generic powders and short-sighted sourcing, Mikuna is about culture, soil, legacy — and nourishment that cares.

✨ This Month (and Every Month): Support Latinx-Owned Wellness & Food Brands

Latinx Heritage Month is a perfect moment to support Latinx-owned businesses — especially in wellness, food, and sustainability. When you buy from these brands, you help uplift communities, celebrate heritage, and build more inclusive supply chains.

Here’s how you can show love:

  • Choose plant-based, ethically sourced products whenever possible

  • Read labels: prioritize brands with transparency and history (like Mikuna’s Chocho)

  • Share stories of heritage — food, recipes, ancestral knowledge — with your community

  • Spread awareness: representation matters, and so does where we spend
