Mikuna Recognized by Fast Company for Changing the Future of Food
May 03, 2022

Today, Mikuna received not one but two honorable mentions from Fast Company's 2022 World Changing Ideas Awards — in both the "Food" and the "On The Rise: 0-4 Years in Business" categories. On a mission to change the future of food in a way that has a positive and lasting impact on the planet, we are proud to be recognized among thousands of applicants for the World Changing Ideas Awards selected based on impact, innovation, design, creativity, ingenuity and scalability.
Fast Company Recognizes Mikuna as One of the Companies “Changing the World Through Food”
When Mikuna was founded, our mission was simple: honor the Andean farmers who have cultivated Chocho for generations, protect the land that makes it possible, and share this nutrient-dense superfood with the world in its purest form.
That’s why being recognized by Fast Company in their roundup of “34 Companies Changing the World Through Food” means so much to us. It’s not just a media mention — it’s a validation of the work happening every day across Ecuadorian farms, Indigenous communities, and our growing family of people choosing clean, regenerative nutrition.
We didn’t set out to create just another protein powder. We set out to help reimagine the future of food. And moments like this remind us that we’re on the right path.
🌿 Why Fast Company Highlighted Mikuna
Fast Company’s list honors brands reshaping food systems for the better — from sustainability and regenerative farming to nutrient density and supply-chain integrity. Mikuna earned recognition because:
1. We Lead With Regeneration
Chocho grows at high altitudes with no irrigation, no synthetic inputs, and minimal environmental impact. Its natural nitrogen-fixing properties help restore soil health — a quiet but powerful reminder that nature already has the solutions.
2. We Protect Cultural Roots
Our supply chain is built around long-standing relationships with Indigenous and rural farming communities in Ecuador. We work directly with smallholder farmers, pay fair prices, and invest in long-term regeneration. This is food that honors where it comes from.
3. We Believe in Whole-Food Nutrition
Mikuna isn’t made with protein isolates or concentrates. Chocho is minimally processed to preserve its fiber, nutrients, and gentle digestibility. Our goal is simple: give people clean, functional nutrition without compromise.
4. We Bridge Ancestral Wisdom & Modern Needs
Fast Company recognized that the future of food isn’t just about innovation — it’s about rediscovering crops that sustained people for centuries and bringing them back, responsibly, into global food culture. That’s exactly what Chocho represents.
