Our Impact

Let's do food better. Together

MIKUNA is committed to moving the world towards a more sustainable future
with regenerative agricultural processes, supply-chain transparency, and
environmental stewardship.

The Problem with Most Proteins

With rising temperatures, many people are looking for environmentally-friendly alternatives for their sources of protein. While touted for their eco-friendliness, most plant-based proteins have their own set of concerns:

Soy protein production is another leading cause of deforestation in regions like the Amazon. Additionally, large-scale soy farming relies heavily on genetically modified crops and monoculture, depleting soil quality and jeopardizing vital biodiversity.

Pea protein production demands vast amounts of water, placing stress on already scarce water resources. Pea protein also requires heavy processing in order to create the protein isolate.

Our Commitment to a Better Future

Here at MIKUNA, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We proudly harness the mighty power of Chocho plants as our protein powder source, making a bold commitment to a greener future. As a nitrogen-fixing lupin, Chocho is the eco-champion of the plant world. Chocho's natural ability to enrich the soil eliminates the need for harmful synthetic fertilizers, keeping our lands vibrant and fertile.

Water, our planet's lifeblood, is precious. That's why we embrace Chocho, which demands significantly less water compared to traditional protein sources. By conserving this invaluable resource, we're making waves in sustainable food production.

Adaptability is key to resilience. Chocho thrives in diverse climates and soils, obliterating the need for extensive land clearing. With us, you champion biodiversity and protect natural habitats.

Our sustainability roots reach deep into the community. We collaborate directly with local farmers, nurturing precious lands and promoting fair trade principles. MIKUNA is the embodiment of sustainability and innovation. With Chocho as our powerful ally, we proudly pioneer a delicious and nutritious path towards a greener tomorrow. Join us in our mission for a better world, one plant-powered choice at a time.

Better For the Planet

SOIL

Unlike monoculture crops that strip soils of their nutrients, Chocho cultivation actively improves soil health, as the crop holds the unique ability to fix nitrogen, improving soil health and protecting biodiversity.

WATER

Our highly drought-tolerant, regenerative crops are watered only by natural rainfall. In addition, 90% of the water used in processing is recycled back into the waterways its sourced from.
